Gutter Repair and Installation
Water pouring over the front of a gutter in a November downpour is easy to ignore from inside the house. Over a few seasons, that same water soaks the fascia, rots the roof edge, and pools against the foundation. We repair, rehang, and replace gutters and downspouts for homes across Tacoma and Pierce County. And because we are roofers, we fix the wood and roof edge behind them in the same visit.

Storm tore a gutter off the house?
A gutter hanging by one bracket can take fascia and shingles with it in the next gust. Read about our 24/7 emergency roof repair, or call day or night.
Gutter Problems We Fix
Our rain is steady more than it is violent, so gutters here fail from months of slow abuse. These are the jobs we get called out for most, and gutter visits can be booked on their own or combined with roof work.

Clogs and overflow
- Fir needles, leaves, moss washing off the roof, and shingle granules cleared from troughs and outlets.
- Outlets and downspouts flushed so water goes down the spout instead of over the front edge.
- Moss treatment on the roof above to cut down on next season's sludge.

Sagging and pulled-away runs
- Loose runs rehung with new hangers.
- Gutters re-pitched so they stop holding standing water.
- Soft fascia replaced first so fasteners have solid wood to grab.

Leaking seams and corners
- Leak repair at seams, inside and outside corners, end caps, and outlets.
- Sections bent by ladders, storms, or falling branches replaced.
- A fix for the drip that stains siding and digs a trench in the flower bed.

Downspouts
- Crushed elbows and disconnected sections repaired or replaced.
- Spouts redirected so water moves away from the foundation.
- New downspouts added where one outlet cannot keep up with the roof above it.

Fascia, soffit, and roof edge
- Eave, fascia, soffit, and gutter edge rot repair.
- Roof edge corrected so water lands in the gutter instead of running behind it.
- Rotted roof decking at the eave replaced while the gutter is down.
Not Sure What Is Wrong With Your Gutters?
Send us a description or a few photos, or have us come look. We check the gutters, the downspouts, and the boards they hang from.
You will hear what needs attention now and what can wait.

Signs Your Gutters Need Work
Gutter problems are easiest to spot from the yard during a steady rain:
- Water spilling over the front edge even though the rain is not heavy.
- A run that dips in the middle or has pulled away from the house.
- Drips at corners and seams, or rust and peeling paint along the gutter.
- Stains, peeling paint, or soft spots on the fascia board behind the gutter.
- Washed-out soil, splash marks, or puddles near the foundation under a downspout.
- Plants or moss growing out of the gutter trough.
Catch these early and it is usually a gutter repair. Wait too long and it becomes wood and roof edge repair as well.
Repair the Gutters or Replace Them?
Plenty of gutter systems only need a few hours of work. Others are past saving. This is how we sort them.
Repair works when
The trouble is limited to a few spots: a leaking corner, a loose run that needs new hangers, a crushed downspout, or one bent section. The rest of the system still drains, so we fix those spots and keep it in service.
Replacement makes more sense when
Leaks show up at joint after joint, the metal is corroded or split along long stretches, the gutters are too small for the roof above them, or patch jobs from past owners have piled up. A new system usually costs less over time than patching an old one every fall.
The wood comes first either way
If the fascia or roof edge behind a gutter has rotted, new hangers have nothing solid to grab. We replace damaged boards first, then hang the gutter on sound wood so the repair actually holds.
Photos of the gutters and the boards behind them come with every estimate, so the recommendation is easy to check. If the roof itself is the bigger problem, we will walk you through
roof repair options at the same time.

What to Expect From a Gutter Visit
Check the whole drainage path
We look at the roof edge, the gutters, every downspout, and where the water ends up on the ground, not just the spot that is overflowing.
Written estimate
You get the scope and price in writing, with photos, including any fascia or roof edge work we found.
The work
Damaged wood is replaced first, then gutters are repaired, rehung, or installed with the right slope toward each outlet.
Water test and cleanup
Where it makes sense, we run water through the system to confirm it drains, then haul away old material and debris.
Most gutter repairs are scheduled work and take a single visit.
Gutter ripped loose and hanging off the house? That is an emergency call, and we answer those 24/7.
Where the Water Goes When Gutters Fail
Gutters are the last step in how a roof sheds water. When they stop working, the damage travels back up the house. This is why we treat gutter work as roof work.

Fascia boards
Overflow and water running behind the gutter soak the fascia until it softens and lets go of its fasteners.

Roof edge and decking
Moisture wicks into the lowest row of roof sheathing, the first place we find soft wood on many older homes.

Soffits and eaves
Water behind the fascia often ends up in the soffit, inviting rot and pests into the eaves.
Siding
A steady drip or a sheet of overflow splashes the same stretch of siding every storm, staining and wearing it down.
Foundation and crawlspace
Roof water dumped at the base of the wall collects around the foundation and finds its way into crawlspaces.
Fascia boards
Overflow and water running behind the gutter soak the fascia until it softens and lets go of its fasteners.

New Gutters, Installed With the Roof in Mind
When a system is past repair, we remove the old gutters, fix any rotted fascia or roof edge, and install new gutters and downspouts sized for the roof above them.
If you are also planning a
roof replacement, it is often the right time to do both, because the roof edge is already exposed. If your gutters are still in good shape, we can take them down and reinstall them instead.

Gutter Questions We Get in Pierce County
How much does gutter repair cost in Tacoma?
It depends on how much of the system needs work, how high the eaves are, how many downspouts and corners are involved, and whether the wood behind the gutter has rotted. A resealed corner and a rehung section cost far less than a full replacement with fascia repair. We look at the gutters in person and give you a free written estimate before any work starts.
Can a sagging gutter be fixed, or does it need replacing?
Most sagging gutters can be fixed by rehanging them with new hangers and correcting the slope. The exception is when the fascia board has rotted, because fasteners will not hold in soft wood. In that case we replace the damaged board first, then rehang the gutter.
Why is water running behind my gutters?
Usually the roof edge is not lapped over the back of the gutter, or the gutter was hung too low on the fascia. Either way, rain slips into the gap and soaks the wood behind it. We correct the edge detail and the gutter position so water lands in the trough.
How often should gutters be cleaned in the Northwest?
At least once a year, typically after the leaves drop in late fall, and more often for homes under firs or other heavy tree cover. If your gutters overflow during normal rain, they are due regardless of the calendar.
Where should my downspouts drain?
Away from the foundation, onto a splash block, an extension, or into an approved drainage system. Avoid sending roof water onto a neighbor's property or straight against the house. If you are changing how roof water is handled on your lot, the City of Tacoma stormwater program has guidance for property owners.
